EFRANO specialises in the production of gut strings for musical instruments and technical use. It is a traditional company from the Vogtland music region (Germany). The Vogtland String Makers' Guild was founded back in 1777. The EFRANO company is thus part of a tradition that has lasted for centuries. EFRANO is now in its 4th generation of producing high-quality gut strings.

Master string maker Ernst Frank founded EFRANO in Zwota in 1919. In 1949, his son Gerhard Frank took over the business until 1989, when he handed over the traditional company to his son Wolfgang. Wolfgang Frank, who has been a master string maker himself since 1982, has been running the company ever since and offers a wide range of gut strings. Florian Kofler has been working with Wolfgang Frank since 2020 to ensure the continuation of EFRANO production. Florian Kofler, originally a cellist, is string maker at Wildgutstrings www.wildgutstrings.com since 2018, where he can live out his thirst for research and experimentation in the spirit of the old Italian string manufacturers, while continuing the traditional Vogtland line of string making for EFRANO, as he learnt it from Wolfgang Frank. Wolfgang Frank in Vogtland, Germany, and Florian Kofler in Tyrol, Austria, continue to jointly provide the entire product range in the customary quality.

The use of exquisite raw materials, careful craftsmanship, special manufacturing processes and the use of modern technology guarantee the high quality and the noble sound of EFRANO gut strings.
